POEMS
[
Some of the poems contain book spoilers]

Janey -

My Love is like a Tartan Rose
a kilted ginger Scot
he might be short but he's very sweet and really rather hot.

So daft are you my bonny hobbit
neck-deep in mushrooms am I
each day I'll love you more, my dear,
till the Brandywine runs dry.

'Til the Brandywine runs dry, my dear,
and the elves are wrinkly and old,
and I will love you still, my Pip,
until Mount Doom grows cold.

So namarie, my Pippinism,
Namarie, I said.
For I still love and wonder, dear,
What goes on inside your head.

SilverHolly -

Pippin

You may be clumsy and petite,
But so are all with hobbit feet.
So I can all but hug you dead
If not for the curls atop your head.

You laugh enough to cheer the moon
When Merry's company is soon.
But you must learn to quell desire,
Especially 'round Gandalf's fire.

And if you would put down your ale
--For it does make your judgment fail!--
Then I could send you to your room
For stealing Maggot's dear mushroom.

The way you constantly must nap
Is quite enough to make one snap.
And why must you insist upon
A second breakfast after dawn.

That's not to say you haven't had
Your share of scares, though none so bad
As when you looked into that ball
And glimpsed the greatest evil of all.

Those curiously pointy ears
Pin back each time you face your fears.
The screech of riders black as jet
Is not so easy to forget.

I must admit that your escape
From fearsome Orcs did make me gape.
For one so young and light of heart,
That deed was your adulthood's start.

You are no baggage, little friend.
Your courage guides you till the end.
O, you have grown much, after all,
While staying nearly four feet tall.

Severa -

The Youngest of Four By Peregrin Took

I tell the tale of a hobbit strong and brave
Though sometimes called a fool, cad, or a knave.
Orcs, Wraiths, and armies were endured
All to make be the ring-bearer secured.

Samwise Gamgee, servant ever loyal;
Frodo Baggins who's heart'll never spoil;
Meriadoc Brandybuck, his partner in crime,
And Peregrin Took can always sense bedtime.

Hobbits, four, changed the face of MiddleEarth,
But only one is of any worth.
The youngest amongst them, seeking his own,
even chanced to play with a lost seeing-stone

After forming a fellowship with the Ents
The rise of Saruman he prevents.
By drinking the trees' water, he grew by ten.
Now he's roughly the size of common men!

Now back in the shire he shall stay,
And till the end be the hero of the day.
So ends the tale of the mighty Pippin.
I think I'll find something more comfortable to slip in.

THE TOOK FAMILY LINE

They say there's something odd
In the ol' Took blood.
There's something unhobbit like
In our ways.
We can't always be idle,
Smoking our pipes.
We get into spots of trouble
When the timing is right.

We don't look for adventure,
It seems to somehow find us:
Like Belladonna's son,
Esmeralda's and Paladin Took's.
I wanted to know the name
Of all the stars.
Bilbo Baggins journeyed far,
Merry got lost on the way to the bar.*

*(collector's note) This is of course a jibe towards his cousin, Meriadoc Brandybuck. It is believed that the reason for saying this was because Merry was his worst critic and constantly looked over Pippin's shoulder when he was writing. This annoyed Pip to no end.

DENETHOR'S SQUIRE (A.K.A "The serious one")

I came to Gondor,
I know not what for.
I felt so alone
Surrounded by white stone.
There I met the steward of the king
And in his lap was a most sorrowful thing:
The cloven horn of a comrade slain
Forever protecting Isildur's Bane.
Filled with pity, I gave my word;
Offering thus my life and sword.
They clad me in mail of silver and black;
Heavy steel placed upon my back.

The Darkness came from the East.
Upon our flesh, Orcs would eat.
As the outer walls began to burn,
Did Denethor think t'was his turn,
Taking the son he that was dead,
He laid himself and Faramir on a final bed.
Even though Mithrandir finally came,
Denthor was engulfed by madness and flame.
All through this I had one thought
Even as men around me fought:
Of Sam and Frodo on their quest,
And Cousin Merry, whom I loved best.

Hobbit ears -

Hey Billy Billy,
Your eyes are green,
Your kilt is blowin',
For a look we're keen!!
